A judge has ordered that a woman suffering from cancer must have an operation - even though she has indicated she does not want it.

A 55 year old woman, who is suffering from cancer, was told by her doctors to have surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes or she will die. Surprisingly the woman has refused to carry on with the surgery, according to sources it was claimed that she has learning difficulties and unable to decide about her healthcare. On the other hand it seems that the woman is terrified of needles and hospitals and has even missed treatment sessions.

However the head of the High Court family division Sir Nicholas wall has ordered the woman to proceed with the surgery to save her own life. He has also indicated the doctors that if persuasion fails, it may be necessary to take whatever action that is needed to precede the surgery.

The judge has insisted on taking the matter in the open court as to help others who have a similar dilemma, and the final order has been given under the Mental Capacity Act of 2005
