MP Pens Radical New Cord Bill

report photo

Southgate Mp David Burrows is continuing to champion a new ethical treatment from something we discard which could save lives all over the world.
Cord blood cells, taken from placenta, can be used to treat 85 separate illnesses, ranging from leukaemia to sickle-cell anaemia, but most are routinely destroyed by hospitals, despite their obvious benefits.

Mr Burrows feels so strongly about the issue that he has penned a government Bill which is currently passing through the House of Commons. If all goes to plan, it will mean every expectant mother would be informed that she will be able to donate her placenta for research or storage in a bank for future donors. The move will serve as a viable alternative to stem cell research which has faced much opposition based on moral grounds.

The second bill reading is due before ministers on Friday October 17.

I think this is a really good move forward, lets keep our fingers crossed for the second bill!
