Catherine Tate as the Dr's new assistant. Am I bovvered?

Catherine Tate kicked off the long awaited new series of Doctor Who last night, as the new assistant to the Time Lord. Playing Donna Noble is a wide leap from playing Lauren and foul mouthed Gran in her excellent The Catherine Tate Show.

As I watched I couldn't help breaking into a smile every so often, as I am sure I detected a hint of her Character the 'Geordie Charity Raising Woman' from her afore mentioned show. There WAS an element of humour to her performance, which all in all was not a bad thing, it gave an air of lightness about the opening episode. The cute and dare I say it (sorry mums & dads) little "fat made aliens", will I am sure be a best seller toy come christmas time. They too added a touch of humour to the episode.

I can't wait to see how the character of Donna develops and see how the Doctor - who isn't adverse to making a few jokes of his own, interact. Let us not forget, this isn't really a childrens tv show, it is a family show with an adult audience so we hope that as the episodes go on that we will get some scary moments and more action scenes. The best bit for me was the glimpse of Rose (Billy Piper)the errant eye candy. Let's hope we will be seeing more of Rose as the series goes on, that little teaser wetted my appetite for more.

Am I bovvered that Catherine Tate is the Doctor's new assistant? Well, no actually, because I already like her and long may she continue to make me smile.
