The remains of princess Eadygyth has finally brought back to England after it was rest in Magdeburg Cathedral in Germany.

Eadgyth was the granddaughter of Alfred the Great, daughter Edward the Elder, King of England, sister of Athelstan the first king of unified England and the wife of Otto 1, the Holy emperor.

In search of a suitable bride to Otto the holy emperor, a German ambassador was sent to England. And then king of England Athelstan was delighted of the offer as it was a chance of having a diplomatic union of the countries and to get rid of any chances of having rival children.

However it was a love at first sight for Eadgyth and Otto, they were married soon after. Eadgyth was known to be a strong woman and was loved by people in Germany, therefore the whole country mourned when she died at the young age of 35. Her body has been lying in Magdeburg cathedral in Germany with her husband’s until 2008, when her coffin was discovered by archaeologists. And finally she returned back to her motherland England in 2010.
