The Story Behind the name AMBERLIEGH

report photo

Met with Leona Lewis Aunty Laurette Josiah

Amberliegh is a music group for drum and dance set up by Laurette Josiah in 2003 and has been running without funding ever since.
Amberliegh is a unique group grown out of a family`s enjoyment of music, drumming and dance. There are no other groups in the area or in fact in Islington.
The story behind the name Amberliegh.
When the groupe was first set up,Laurette did not know what call it,evrybody had different suggetions, however none of them were suitable.Laurette knew that one day the name of the group would come to her.On the sixteenth of August 200?,Laurette father died;he was a man who used to have a bet on the horses and every year Laurette and her father would back on horses from the Grand National. This year was different as Laurette`s little niece Leah Amber had passed away. When the day of the Grand National came around again,Laurette took her yearly trek to the bookies and stood in her normal place and marked the horse while thinking of her late father telling her to pick him the winner.Laurtte placed the bet;only a pound.Later on that day,Laurette sat to watch the race. She could hear the compare shouting out the names of the horses.Laurette looked at her betting slip and saw that three of her horses where up in front, but the one name she kept hearing loud and clear was Amberliegh House,Amberliegh House won that race, however, the name Ambeliegh House seemed more than just a winning horse.Laurette soon realised that there was a strong coincidence betuseween the horse Amberliegh House and Leah AMBER the name of her late niece who died at infancy.
It became apparent that the middle name of baby Leah Amber and the picking of the horse was no coincidence. The name of the groupe Amberliegh, without the House was born.

This is a great lady. She does soooo much for the community and especially the children!! My 5 year old son loves her and loves attending her drum class. She had helped to build his confidence and has given him a sense of community. It is so much more than a drum class, We have all gained a second family in Amberliegh. Thanks x

words can't decribe the amazing work u put in to helping children come better people though you class.
the class is full every week of eager children to learn drum and dance.
you teach them depicipline, fairness and you give them the courage to believe in themselfs and to achieve anything they want in life. you also teach friendship which all of them have made whilst be in you class.
not only do you teach the children you alos teach there parents your wisdom and love you share within the community.
you have taught my brother and i to believe in our dreams and to be successful
and you have also passed on you knowledge to you nephew for him to follow his dreams and to be successful as well.
we are all very proud of what you have achieved with amberliegh and we are supporting you 100%

My son started going to the under 5's and special needs music and drum class in 2007. He was only 14 months old. He used to scream everytime I would leave the room but due to the patience of Laurette's teaching he learned to understand he was in a class and his mother was around. More importantly, he learned vital social skills in relation to being with children who were disable and had special needs. He learned that although they were different to him, they were part of the group. His confidence grew so much he performed for the first time at Hackney Empire when he was just 2 years old, he sat on my lap but by the time he was 2 and a half he refused to sit on my lap and had a drum all to himself. He is now 3 and 9 months and continues to attend the class and loves the social aspect of all the children and adores performing now. Thanks Laurette and keep doing what God has chosen for you to do.
